GREAT BAY– Miss Global International will soon be added to the list of pageantry on this 37 square mile island and the person that will be looking to take pageantry to the next level is model turned franchise holder, Tracy Ann Dawkins from Jamaica.

It was in the Miss PJD2 Radio Pageant back in 2004 that Miss Dawkins first made her presence felt while on stage in the Festival Village. Obviously impressed with the island life, it did not take her long to come back and has since been able to establish herself in the local fashion industry.

The Miss Global International Pageant which began in 2004  was formerly known as Miss Commonwealth is owned by Lachu Ramchandani . Since its inception, pageants have been hosted at the Jamaica Pegasus, Grand Palladium, Sunset Beach Resort & Spa and the Hotel RIU & the Montego Bay Convention Centre just to name a few.

Coming out of those pageants were queens from all over the world from countries such as  Zimbabwe, Trinidad, Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, England, Singapore , Martinique, Australia and currently Brazil.

Now, Dawkins, who represented Jamaica at Miss Jamaica world twice plans to have that pageant staged here, but that will not be possible without the financial assistance from sponsors. “St Maarten has not been represented at a very high level for a number of years and we at ADCON will be trying to attract an international crowd to this island while showing them that it’s more than just  our beautiful beaches and island life. Our aim is to also show the rest of the Caribbean and the rest of the world that on St Maarten we too have ladies quality materiel. “Dawkins said.

According to Dawkins, she was challenged to take up the position she now holds by someone who was of the opinion that St Maarten does not have beauty with brains behind it. Phase one of this new venture will be registrations for prospective contestants in which 15 will be chosen to compete for the local title.

The eventual winner will be flying out to the international leg of the competition in Jamaica in 2017 where she will be among other queens that have made it that far. “We are currently seeking sponsors for this prestigious ‘Black Tie’ event and on that night we will be expecting coverage from every media house on the island.”

In keeping with he community minded spirit, part of the proceeds from that special event will go towards the St Maarten Judicial Institute. “To the prospective contestants, come on out and dont be shy. I was shy once, but pageants have helped me to pave the way to where I am today,” she added.

In her message to prospective sponsors, Dawkins said it will be their way of getting involved in the community in a positive manner. The date for the sashing of the 15 contestants is set for July 1st, 2017, the grand coronation will take place here on July 15th at the Princess Port de Plaisance and the grand finale on September 9th in Jamaica.

“We will be looking to see how they will interact with people and getting them ready for the big night, but we will be needing everybody on board. If we were to get an opportunity to host this pageant we will be seeing contestants from all over the globe coming here.”

With regards to the other pageants that are held running up to the annual carnival season, Dawkins said that she does not see a conflict of interest because it will be held at a different time and the dress code while attending her event is totally different.

“We want to make this pageant something people will look forward to, all contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 26 and must be owners of a Dutch passport, or have legal status and past experience is not an asset.”
