Police expound on safety measures as holiday season approaches

As the holiday season approaches, the Police Department would like to ease any concerns residents may have about their safety.

The Police Department remains proactive in regard to prevention of crime. One measure taken was the Robbery Awareness Program, which was given to several businesses in 2016. These businesses are urged to implement that information.

Management of the Police Department stressed the importance of the community being vigilant, particularly at this time of year. “It is important that we look out for each other because if one business is victimized it affects us all,” a release said.

“If anyone sees anything suspicious, they should not hesitate to contact the Police by calling 911. Residents are also urged to follow basic safety practices to prevent being victimized, e.g. purses being snatched, pick pocketed or being followed. Items of value should always be placed out of sight. For more information or tips please contact your CPO or visit our Facebook page, Police Force of St. Maarten,” the release continued.

Additional safety measures being implemented are increased patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles, and meetings with the various community groups. The Detective Department is working diligently to resolve pending cases. Persons with information are urged to call the Detective Department at 542-2222 ext. 175 or 176. Persons wishing to remain anonymous should call 9300.
