Press Release:

ANTIGUA — Officials at Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) today, announced operational plans for the passage of Tropical Storm Danny.

All outpatient clinic services, non-urgent admissions and surgeries scheduled for Monday and Tuesday have been cancelled. All affected patients will be contacted by a MSJMC representative to reschedule appointments. With the impending arrival of the storm MSJMC’s visiting hours for today will run from 10:30AM to 4PM.

“It is customary for the hospital to operate at a state of readiness so families can rest assured that all patients will continue to get the care they need,” said Dr. Sharon Cordner, MSJMC Medical Director. “If that means surgery, we can do that; the hospital has enough clinical and non-clinical supplies to ride out the storm and its aftermath.”

The hospital has already begun matching staff with patient needs, making sure to have at least one doctor of every specialty. Access to the hospital’s Emergency Room during and immediately after the storm will be the last door on the right. During this time, visitors are kindly requested to park in the visitor parking areas closest to the Emergency Room.

“Continuity of care is very important to us, so as a part of our planning, staffing is arranged to cover all areas of the hospital, during and after the storm. Our Emergency Room will also remain open as usual but we’re asking persons not to risk going out in the storm and coming to the hospital if it’s not an absolute emergency.”Gary Thomas, CEO (Acting) & Director of Administration & Disaster Planning at MSJMC said.
