PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten  – After 10 weeks of training, Island Hoops Basketball Academy is proud to announce the 10 youth players who have been chosen for their Annual GloBALL Basketball Excursion.  Head coach and Island Hoops Founder will be taking the team to Pennsylvania on July 18th for the 4-day intensive premier basketball exposure / recruitment camp – Hoop Group Elite Camp.

The Island Hoops Annual GloBall Excursion aims to give young players the opportunities to play and train in an international setting. “Having led national team delegations in Europe, it has always been my goal when I returned home to do the same here on St. Maarten. That’s why I started Island Hoops to bring skills development training I learnt through international coaching. Now that the right opportunity has presented itself, Island Hoops aims to provide this opportunity to hard working and deserving young basketball players on a yearly basis”, says coach Paul Bell.

This year the GloBALL excursion camp will be going to the Hoop Group Elite Camp which will have hundreds of top talented teens along with college coaches  for four days of skill trainings and exhibitions. Hundreds of college and highschool recruiters will also be in attendance to observe the skilled players.

Professional skills development coach Mike Nalls presented the opportunity to Island Hoops Founder coach Paul Bell.  “Hoop Group Elite Camp is just what the name implies,  90% of the current players in the NBA have participated in the Elite Camp. It is where you go to prove yourself or get on the map – basketball-wise. This is the premier make you or break you camp and has been for the last 20 years. It is going to be a great experience for the boys of St. Maarten”, Nalls said.

The 10 young players selected for the first annual Island Hoops GloBALL excursion are: Daniel Phillips, Demitri Richardson, Demitrius Berry, Donnie Liverpool, Jahmalik Hodge, Jason Smith, Keeshawn Hughes, Kerry Coipel, Shyhiem Wilson and Umi Dupersoy. These players range in the age of 15 to 18 and regularly compete on local teams.

This basketball education excursion is being made possible by donations and sponsorships. Island Hoops and each member of the 12-person delegation are presently seeking funds to cover the expenses of airfare, camp registration, transportation and accommodation.
