AUIS Provides Open House for School Principals and other Educational Professionals

COLE BAY – Last week the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Milo Pinckney and the president Dr. Renu Agnihtri of the American University of Integrative Sciences (AUIS), were pleased to be host and hostess to over 25 secondary school principals, science teachers, student and career guidance councillors, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as local tertiary level instructors, at their first information session and open house for the public of St. Maarten.

The open house took place at AUIS Campus in Cole Bay in the former Montessori School Building.  At this session the CEO gave a short history of the school on St. Maarten making reference to the purchase/ take over and redesigning and repositioning of the University of St. Eustatius School of Medicine (USESOM) St. Maarten into the new AUIS of St. Maarten.

The president shared the plans for two new programs which are of particular interest to school leaving students who have an interest in Science, Medicine and Allied health studies. Scholarships and grants will be made available for local students of both programs.

The criteria will be determined by a panel consisting of AUIS educational personnel and local secondary school principals and teachers.  Scholarships and grants will be awarded based on merit.

In late August the AUIS will be offering an accelerated three-year Bachelors of Science in Pre-medical Sciences degree as well as certification in allied health Sciences.

This degree program and certificate program are open to applications from local persons as well as students from the US and Canada and islands in the region.

The second offering was the project of the Med- Camp which is a four week residential camp on St. Maarten for students who have an interest in medicine.

The program aims to provide an exposure to holistic medicine as well as allopathic medicine and allied health sciences, the business of medicine, the cultural environment of St. Maarten, boating and other sporting activities on St. Maarten.

The students will be chaperoned in single sex groupings. This too is open to students from St. Maarten the region and those from the US mainland and Canada.

At the conclusion of the presentation the attendees toured the premises and actually tried out some of the state of the art diagnostic technological tools developed by sister support companies to AUIS.

They expressed their interest in the programs and appreciation for the invitation and information which they would take back to their schools and students.
